Have a swimming competition right around the corner? For many athletes, this is one of the most exciting times in their athletic career.
They are geared up and ready to put in an optimal performance, showing off all the hard work they’ve put in.
But, if you don’t prepare properly for that swimming competition, you may not see the results that you were hoping for.
How can you best prepare for a swimming competition?
Let’s go over a few of the main things you need to know.

Plan Your Eating Out Ahead Of Time
First, now is not the time to be experimenting with new foods or meals before your event. As much as possible, try and stick with the exact same foods you’ve eaten all along throughout your training session.
Swimmers can be especially prone to getting cramps from eating if they aren’t eating the right foods, so you definitely do not want this to happen when you are about to enter your swimming competition.

Figure Out How To Get In Your Zone
Next, take some time to figure out how to get into your ‘zone’. When gearing up for a swimming competition, it’s important that you can block out any and all distractions around you so that you can instead focus on putting in your best performance ever.
Do this by listening to music, finding a quiet place to sit or lay down, or watching a motivational video of other award winning swimmers excelling at the sport.
Figure out what works for you and then do that in the hours prior to the swimming competition.

Warm-Up Thoroughly
Next, consider your warm-up. Remember that unlike practice sessions where you have plenty of time to get into your groove, you’ll need to be feeling your very best for the first time you hit the water.
This means doing a more thorough warm-up before hand. Take some time to do some light stretching and warm-up exercises. It’ll pay off in giving you a superior performance.
So there you have three steps to take before any swimming competition. If you get these in place, you can rest assured that you are going to experience the best chances of giving your top performance yet.
